Tips for taking a night bus in Thailand
- Pick the class. VIP buses (24 seats) have the widest seats and recline the most. First class (32 seats) is a good middle choice.
- Bring a jacket. The air conditioning is cold all night. Most buses give you a blanket, but a warm layer helps.
- Keep valuables with you. Put your passport, money and phone in a small bag on your seat, not in the luggage hold.
- Arrive 30 minutes early. Big terminals like Mo Chit are busy in the evening, and finding the right platform takes time.
- Expect an early arrival. Many buses arrive between 5 and 7 am. Check whether your hotel allows early check-in.
Night buses: common questions
Are night buses in Thailand safe and comfortable?
Long-distance buses from the big companies are a common way to travel. VIP buses have 24 to 32 wide reclining seats, blankets and a toilet. Keep valuables in your small bag with you, not in the luggage hold.
Which Bangkok bus terminal do night buses use?
Buses to the north and northeast leave from Mo Chit (Chatuchak). Buses to the south leave from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). Buses to the east leave from Ekkamai. Your ticket shows the exact terminal.
How much does a night bus cost?
Night bus tickets on this page start from ฿356 per adult before booking fees. Prices depend on the route and the class of bus.
Should I book a night bus in advance?
Book a few days ahead on weekends and around Thai holidays, when the best seats sell out. On other days you can often book the same day.
