Which class should I choose?
🛏️ 1st class sleeper
A private cabin for 1–2 people with a washbasin and air conditioning. Most comfortable and the most expensive.
🛌 2nd class sleeper
Open carriage with curtained upper and lower berths. The lower berth is wider with a window. The most popular choice.
💺 2nd class seat
Reclining seat, often with air conditioning. Cheaper, but hard to sleep well on a long trip.
🪑 3rd class seat
Bench seats with fans. The cheapest option, best for short sections only.
Tips for a night train
- Book sleeper berths early, especially lower berths on Fridays, weekends and holidays.
- Air-conditioned carriages get cold at night. Bring a light jacket.
- Berths are made up in the evening by the staff. Bedding is included.
- Long-distance trains can run late. Leave a few hours spare if you have a flight or another train.
- Most long-distance trains from Bangkok leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, not Hua Lamphong.

FAQ
Which night trains in Thailand have sleeper berths?
35 of the 39 overnight trains in our timetable have sleeper berths, mostly Special Express (SP) and Express (EX) trains on the Northern, Northeastern and Southern lines.
How much is a sleeper berth on a Thai night train?
Second class berths start from about 699 THB per adult, and first class private cabins from about 1,446 THB. The fare depends on the distance and whether you choose an upper or lower berth.
Upper or lower berth?
Lower berths are wider, have a window and cost a little more. Upper berths are cheaper and more private but have no window. Both convert from seats in the evening.
What time do night trains arrive?
Most arrive between 5:00 and 10:00 the next morning. A few arrive very early (before 5:00), which we mark on each train.
How do I book a night train ticket?
Choose your travel date at the top of this page and press Book on the train you want. You will see the live fares and berths, and you pay online.
